SSS? No way!

I pushed on through and finished my Jaywalkers! I love, love, LOVE this pattern and will definitely be knitting it again soon. I had some issues, though. First, I did the larger size. Bad idea. My feet aren’t as fat as I thought they were. The socks are a tad too loose, especially the ribbing. It might as well not even be there. It looks weird and bunchy. Also, I should have made the cuffs shorter instead of the recommended 6 inches. My calves start to balloon at about 5 inches. This is yet another reason why I need to learn toe-up. I didn’t like the heel either. The sl1k1 is more durable than just plain knit, but it’s not as nice-looking. I made a huge mistake on the second sock. I didn’t have the pattern with me when it came time to do the heel gusset, and I didn’t decrease enough. I have about 10 extra stitches on each row, which comes out to about 500 total, which explains why this sock never seemed to end! So the next time I knit this pattern, I’m doing the smaller size with a smaller cuff and knit heel, and I’m paying attention to the decreases! All in all, I’m okay with how it turned out. The flubs are completely my fault, and that frustrates me, but this is my first pair of actual socks (not counting the SP socks, because they were worsted weight), so of course I love them!

Next, I’ll be casting on for Phineas using Nature’s Palette in Dark Teal. And this time, I’m carrying the pattern with me everywhere!

Those Jaywalkers are amazing. I may have to make a pair of those now … if I can ever properly unpack my yarn!

BTW – what colorway is that?

Rosemary, I’ve never attempted toe up socks, but these look like they’ll be a perfect first attempt. I’ll post pics as I progress. I can’t wait to start knitting these socks!

Amy, thanks! They’re Lorna’s Laces in Vera. I absolutely adore them, despite their flaws. This yarn was a joy to work with. Plus, it’s called Vera, like Jayne Cobb’s gun. Can’t get any shinier than that! (Well, maybe with the River colorway, but I always liked Vera better. Lol.)

Hi Rozee.
I see you successfully completed the Cabled Hat with Earflaps from Zoe Mellors Adorable Knits for Tots…

I work for the publishing house that published the American version of that book and we could use a little help on that pattern. Please email me at your earliest convenience. (We’d be willing to exchange a book from out catalog for your help). Thanks.
