I got my final SP package today. My pal was Amy from Virginia. She sent me a nice letter telling me all about herself, and she even included an adorable picture of her and her boyfriend. There was also a cute little Buddha and a small pouch, which will be perfect for carrying my stitch markers and other small notions (I use the other one as my everyday wallet-type thing). There was also a lovely ball of Ironstone 50% mohair/50% acrylic in Herb Garden. It’s 233 yards of beautiful blue/green lusciousness. Thank you so much, Amy! You’ve been an absolutely wonderful spoiler, and I’m looking forward to being real pals now. :)

I wanted to use the Reynold’s Whiskey Amy sent me last month to make Brooke’s Column of Leaves Scarf, but all the yo’s and whatnot have me all confused. For example: ” k1, yo, p1″ just ends up as a regular k1p1 if all the yo’s are done knitwise, and that just doesn’t seem right to me. I think I’m going to ask for help in one of the LJ knitting communities, because I really want to knit that scarf with that yarn. I started using the Reynold’s to make Branching Out, but I think the Ironstone would be much better for BO. I’m only about a foot in, so it won’t be too horrible to frog it, but I want to figure out CoL first Nevermind, I figured it out! I’m retarded. :p

I do have some actual FO’s to share. We had a few rainy days last week, so I whipped together a simple cabled beanie while waiting for the new Battlestar Galactica to come on. It’s Patons Chunky Shetland Tweed in Ice-something. The purls right after the cables are really loose, but I’m hoping a light blocking will fix that a bit. If not, it’s okay, “winter” will be over soon. I might throw together a matching cabled scarf, if I ever get to it.

I also finished one of my Jaywalkers! I cast on for the second one immediately, but I’ve only gotten a couple of inches done so far. I got distracted by the semi-lace. I can’t wait to wear them!

I finally finished the socks for my SP. I got all my shopping done, and it will be sent off on Monday, I think. I’ve decided that I’m not going to reveal myself. It seems that she’s unhappy with her SP9 experience. She told our hostess that the last package “looked like it came from a dollar store.” Nice, eh? I know the package wasn’t fabulous, but I thought it was cute. I couldn’t afford anything big at that point, and I let her know that her next package would be much better, but I guess she was still upset. After I send out this last package, I don’t want anymore contact with my spoilee. I’m going to sign up for SP10, and I absolutely can’t wait. I’m starting a second job next week, which will give me quite a bit of extra money each month. My packages will be as lavish as the ones I received this round. Here’s all that I’m sending to my spoilee. I’d say it’s acceptable, wouldn’t you?

Not a whole lot of interesting

I’ve been doing a whole lot of knitting, but I’ve been lax in my picture-taking. I’ll get better, I swear!

I finished a hat for my soulmate that says “s.b. lounger” (our codeword for someone who works at starbucks, aka the sb lounge). she loves it, which makes me happy. :)

I also restarted my Jaywalkers. I had to frog them a while back, because I’d completely screwed something up and wasn’t in the mood to put in a lifeline and just frog back to my mistake. I’m on the gusset of the first sock, and I’m a little worried about having enough yarn. I did the larger size, because I’m a fat kid, and I’m using Lorna’s Laces in Vera (soooo gorgeous!). I guess if I run out, I’ll just frog it and make the leg shorter. But hopefully I won’t have to do that, because I love this sock so much! I must admit, though, I’m not a fan of the way the heel flap turned out with the way the colors fell. I want to rip it out and do a standard sl1 k to the end heel instead of sl1 k1 to the end as in the pattern. I think it’d be better to rip it out now as opposed to waiting until it’s all done to frog it. I’m not sure what to do. :(

My knitting classes are going well. The sock knitting class started on Sunday, and it was a blast! I only had one student, but I like it that way. There’s a whole week between the cuff/leg class and the heel class, so I told her if she finishes the leg and is ready to start the heel sooner to give me a call and we’ll figure something out. She can go at her own pace instead of having to wait for 3 other people to get to the same point. I had 4 students for my beginning knitting class last night. It’s always fun to sit and knit and chat.

My instructional bonus is going to be pretty decent next month, so this weekend, I’m going shopping for my SP. This will be my second and final package. I had wanted to do three, but what I want and what I get aren’t always the same. But since I can afford it now, it’s going to be a really nice package. I’m so excited! I’m going to try a new lys too, so I’m doubly excited!

For whatever reason, I haven’t had people sign up for my knitting classes this coming week. Part of it may be scheduling conflicts. So I posted an ad on Craigslist offering one-on-one knitting instruction for $10 an hour. I have my first student tomorrow afternoon. Wish me luck!
